If your baking has been coming out inconsistent, the oven may not be reaching the temperature the dial says it is. Here is how to check, and what a technician does about it.

Asko oven temperature calibration is worth checking any time your baking results have quietly gotten worse over months rather than failing all at once, since a thermostat or temperature sensor drifting out of true is a gradual problem that is easy to blame on a recipe before you blame the appliance. A properly working oven should hold within a reasonably tight band of its set temperature once preheated, and a drift of even fifteen or twenty degrees is enough to throw off delicate baking while barely being noticeable on a weeknight roast.

The simplest test you can run yourself

The most reliable check does not require any tools beyond an inexpensive, standalone oven thermometer, the kind that hangs from a rack rather than relying on the oven’s own display. Set the oven to a common baking temperature, let it fully preheat and then run another ten to fifteen minutes to stabilize, and read the thermometer through the door glass without opening it, since opening the door lets heat escape and will give you a falsely low reading. Compare that reading against the temperature you set. A small difference, within about ten degrees, is normal appliance-to-appliance variation. A gap larger than that, or one that is consistent across multiple temperature settings, points to a genuine sensor or control issue rather than measurement noise.

What causes an oven to run hot or cold

On a built-in Asko oven, the temperature sensor, typically a thermistor, is the component most directly responsible for what the control board believes the cavity temperature actually is. If that sensor’s resistance has drifted from its expected values, whether from age or from a partial failure, the control board will cut the heating element based on inaccurate information, and the cavity will consistently run hotter or cooler than the number on the display. A heating element that is failing but not yet completely open can also cause slow, uneven heating that looks like a calibration problem even though the sensor itself is fine.

What a technician actually adjusts

Some ovens include a small calibration offset accessible through the control panel that lets a technician or a confident owner nudge the displayed temperature up or down by a fixed number of degrees to compensate for a sensor that reads consistently off but is not actually failing. Where that option exists, it is only appropriate once a genuine, repeatable temperature gap has been confirmed with a thermometer, not as a first response to one bad bake. Where the gap is large or inconsistent between settings, replacing the temperature sensor itself, rather than papering over the reading with an offset, is the correct fix, and that is a job that involves accessing wiring behind the cavity liner.

When to call for a diagnosis

If your own thermometer test confirms a real, repeatable gap, note the exact readings at two or three different set temperatures before you call, since that pattern helps a technician tell a simple sensor drift from a heating-element failure before they even arrive. Have your model, serial, and Art. No. from the rating plate ready as well, since the correct replacement sensor is keyed to that number, not just the general model name.
