An unlevel freestanding cooker does more than look crooked; it can throw off oven baking results and make liquid on the cooktop unpredictable. Here is how to check and correct it.

Leveling a freestanding cooker is a step that is easy to skip during installation and easy to underestimate afterward, but on an Asko CC-series freestanding range, an unlevel installation genuinely affects both cooking results and everyday safety, not just how straight the appliance looks against surrounding cabinetry.

Why level installation matters for baking

Inside the 71 liter oven cavity, an unlevel cooker means heat and, on models where it applies, any rising batter or liquid inside a dish, are not distributed the way the recipe assumes. A cake baked in a pan on a tilted oven floor rises unevenly, and roasting liquids pool toward one side of a pan rather than basting evenly across the food. Over time, an oven that has never been properly leveled can make certain dishes consistently frustrating to cook well, in a way that gets blamed on the recipe or the cook rather than the installation.

Why it matters on the cooktop too

On top, an unlevel cooktop means liquid in a pan sits unevenly, pooling toward one side rather than distributing across the base, which affects everything from how evenly a sauce reduces to how a shallow pan of oil behaves during frying. In a worst case, a significantly tilted cooktop can make a pan feel unstable, particularly a lighter pan on a high setting, raising a real safety concern rather than just a cooking-quality one.

How to check level

A standard spirit level, placed first front-to-back and then side-to-side across the cooktop surface, is the simplest way to check. Check in multiple positions across the cooktop rather than just the center, since a slight twist in the floor underneath can show up differently depending on where exactly you take the reading. The same check should be repeated inside the oven cavity itself with the level resting on the oven floor, since the floor of the cavity is what actually matters for baking, even if the cooktop above reads level.

Adjusting the feet

Freestanding cookers, including Asko’s CC-series, generally sit on adjustable leveling feet at each corner that can be turned to raise or lower that corner independently. Working corner by corner, small adjustments at a time, and rechecking the level reading after each adjustment, is more reliable than trying to guess the correct final position from a single large turn.

Rechecking over time

Flooring can settle slightly over months, particularly on a newer floor installation, so it is worth rechecking level a few weeks after initial installation and again if you notice baking results or liquid behavior on the cooktop starting to seem inconsistent without an obvious cause.
