Concealed CBB hoods sit flush under upper cabinetry with a slide-out or fold-down front panel that hides the controls and filter access until needed, drawing air up through a grease filter before venting outside or recirculating through a carbon filter. Wall-mounted CW canopy hoods sit exposed above the cooktop with a visible stainless housing and a rated extraction capacity in the 670-700 cubic-meters-per-hour range. Both formats share the same core wear components: the extraction motor and fan blade, the grease filter and its saturation sensor, the LED task lighting, and, on concealed models, the slide mechanism for the front panel. Some concealed models add an automatic intensive-boost setting that ramps the motor up briefly when a connected cooktop reports heavy use, then steps back down once the cooking session ends.
Common issues and maintenance
Neither Asko hood manual we reviewed includes an error-code table, so every complaint is diagnosed by symptom. A motor that will not start is checked at the switch and wiring before the motor itself is condemned; a fan that runs but pulls little air usually traces to a saturated grease filter or a blocked vent duct rather than the motor; and LED task lighting that has gone dark is nearly always the strip or its low-voltage driver rather than house wiring. On a concealed CBB model, a front panel that will not slide out smoothly points to a worn slide rail or a control board that has lost sync with the panel’s position sensor. Washing the grease filter monthly and confirming the exterior vent cap is not blocked resolves the majority of weak-suction complaints before any part needs replacing. A recirculation-mode unit that still smells of cooking odors after a filter wash almost always needs the charcoal or carbon filter replaced outright, since that element is not washable and loses its absorption capacity gradually rather than failing all at once. Vibration or rattling at higher fan speeds is worth checking early, since a fan blade that has come slightly loose on its shaft will wear its bearing faster the longer it runs unbalanced. A hood that shuts itself off unexpectedly mid-use, rather than simply running weak, is checked at the thermal-overload cutout first, since a motor that has been run continuously at its highest setting for an extended period can trip that protection well before the motor itself is actually damaged.
Touch controls that ghost-register a press, or fail to register one at all, are checked for grease film across the control surface before any circuit board is suspected, since a thin layer of airborne grease is enough to interfere with a capacitive touch sensor on either the concealed or wall-mounted style. On ducted installations, a hood that seemed to lose suction gradually over several months rather than suddenly is frequently traced to a duct run that has partially collapsed or accumulated grease buildup well beyond the hood itself, which is why we inspect the accessible portion of the duct run rather than assuming the motor alone is responsible.
